There is a secret to painting, it’s practice.

We will explore ways of painting with acrylic paints
and will experiment with painting a sphere, a vessel and transparent glass.
We will end by painting a final project on canvas.

SUPPLY LIST: ACRYLIC CLASS
- Regular painting materials (paper towels, large water container, fine water spritzer, color wheel, etc).
- Brushes: small, medium, large in flat and in round shapes.
NOT watercolor brushes.
- Acrylic palette or at least 6 large size plastic/foam plates (one plate for the palette, one for its cover).
- Paper: (Acrylic, mixed media, or watercolor paper) enough for 3 8x10” paintings.
- Gesso: the pieces of 8 x 10” paper. Gesso will be available at class.
- Paints: Acrylic paints in “true” primary and secondary colors (i.e., true red, true blue, etc.) plus white (gesso can be used for white paint), black and a medium brown, like burnt sienna… and any others you would like to use. Craft paints can be used… they will result in a “pastel or soft look.”
- Newspapers for laying under our paintings in progress and for cleaning our brushes.
- Optional: Table top easel
- Smock/apron
- Stemmed wine glass to use for our transparent glass painting.

- Watercolor paper - 140# arches cold press or similar, high quality paper…1 ½ - 2 full sheets
- 1/2 Sheet Support Board
- Masking tape or white artists tape- for the techniques I will be working on, I like these: .
- wash brush 1” to 1½”,
- round 10,12 or14,
- flat…I like Winsor Newton 995 series either ¾ or 1”. I will have these for you to use or purchase from me so you won’t have to order it. I should have enough of the two sizes for the 20 students to each use one or the other. $18 for the ¾ “ and $25 for the 1” or I have a few to just use for those who don’t want to buy.
- Script or rigger = small brush for the ‘calligraphy’
- Paints = I use Winsor Newton for the most part. These are my frequently used paints: cobalt blue, ultramarine blue, Winsor blue, cerulean blue, Winsor green, sap green, aureolin, Winsor yellow, new gamboge, scarlet lake, Winsor red, perm magenta, burnt sienna, raw sienna Again, bring what you have or email me with any questions.
- Kneaded eraser and pencil
- Towel or Sponge
- Water containers 2
- Kleenex (pop up box)
- Spray bottle - continuous mist is great if you need to buy one, otherwise bring your usual fine mister spray bottle for watercolors
- Masking fluid- if you don’t have, we don’t use much so don’t go buy a bottle….you can share mine or maybe others.
- Leaves - to use in both techniques of painting…maple and grape work well. Pick just a day before and seal in a gallon ziplock bag, taking care not to bend or crease them as they lay flat.
